Introducing Lee Guitars by Jonathan Lee 李宗盛

Jonathan Lee (李宗盛), for the past 30 more years, has been widely recognized as a multi-platinum record producer and one of the most influential and legendary musicians in the Chinese and Taiwanese music industry. His music has touched myriads of people and has achieved an iconic status over the last few decades.

Being a musician, Lee has always been closely connected to sonic equilibrium and aesthetic values. At the same time, he has been conscientiously studying every guitar type and every detail significant to the crafting, modifying, upgrading, and restoring of the instrument. Ever since the first day he started writing music, the vision to one day handcraft a world-class guitar had been deeply rooted in his heart.  Finally, the fondness of music and the mission to leave a musical legacy for descending generations have led him turn a surreal passion into a full-time labor of dream.

In 1997, Lee began the second phase of his musical journey as a luthier, and established the first Lee Guitars Workshop five years later in 2002.  In 2003, the first-generation S Model was born and has been well kept in his guitar cabinet to the present day.

Being analytical and precise to the extreme, Lee ensures that each wood, though varying in their density, weight, stability, grain, pattern, and color, will be combined properly so that its best qualities can shine through. It is his meticulous and stellar craftsmanship that has given each and every Lee Guitar its own life.

Up to now, Lee Guitars has released eight product lines, along with guitars custom-tailored for specific projects. Not only have these models been highly sought by guitar collectors around the world, musicians such as Wakin Chau, MayDay, Tanya Chua, A-Yue Chang, Cheer Chen, and Victor Huang have also found the heritage, the structural integrity, and the distinct beauty of Lee Guitars stimulate their musical senses and inspire them in writing, performing, and playing music.

The rough-and-tumble Classic Vibe Stratocaster ’60s evokes that musically adventurous decade, with a few modern features added. The alder body has a Three-color Sunburst or Candy Apple Red finish; the ’60s-era vintage-tint gloss-maple neck has a rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium-jumbo frets and a modern 9.5” radius. The thick tone comes from the alnico V single-coil pickups—quick attack with a bit more midrange force and a knockout bridge pickup. Custom staggered polepieces provide improved string-to-string balance.

The soundboard is cut from Farida’s finest solid Englemann Spruce, producing a clear ringing upper and mid range. This sweet, highly detailed tone is underpinned by a warm, full bass response courtesy of the solid rosewood back and sides. The overall finished tone is loud, balanced and luxuriant, capable of finely tuned subtlety and wilful exhuberance in equal measure.

To capture this guitar’s breadth of tone, Farida have fitted the D-62E with the discreet B-Band A1.2 pick-up system.
